    The overall aims of BUS B368 Business Issues and Ethics are to:

    • introduce students to business issues that raise ethical questions;
    • provide students with a conceptual framework and body of knowledge to enable them to understand and respond to ethical issues in business;
    • enable students to perceive ethical issues from the perspectives of all stakeholders in business situations, including employees, managers, directors, shareholders, customers and consumers, suppliers, competitors, the financial world, auditors, regulators, society, and the public at large;
    • equip students with the introductory knowledge and ability they need to critique ethical codes in business organizations, the financial sector and the professions, and to understand problems associated with the introduction and operation of such codes;
    • spark students’ interest with examples from around the world so that they can recognize the ethical dimensions of business situations and identify appropriate reactions; and
    • challenge students by asking them to identify appropriate reactions to contemporary issues in business ethics.

    The course covers the following topics:

    • Introduction to business ethics
    • Contextualizing business ethics
    • Business ethics and the environment
    • Business ethics and information technology
    • Business ethics and globalization

    Learning support
    There will be three three-hour tutorials and one three-hour surgery.

    There are two assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
